Nightwater Guides
From punching trees in The Woods to piping a factory that runs while you hunt the Lighthouse.
This hub is the map for every Nightwater how-to on the wiki. The game is a first-person sandbox from Studio Ashty, published with Irox Games: forage, craft, and automate on an island floating in a sea of liquid void, then expand that island by manifesting biomes until you can reach the Lighthouse.
The full Steam launch is 18 September 2026. Until then the free demo is the best way to learn the loop. Use this page to pick a guide by intent instead of wandering the nav.

If you have not launched the game yet, read Getting Started, How to Play, and the controls reference. Confirm your PC against the system requirements, then wishlist and install from the official links page.
New players almost always stall on the same two problems: punching every tree by hand, and ignoring milestone bars. Nightwater is an incremental factory game wearing a foraging skin. The moment you can place a wooden harvester, a primitive pipe, and a primitive chest, you should stop treating the island like a clicker and start treating it like early Satisfactory.
What each guide answers
- Getting Started — first hour in The Woods: wood, stone, clay, wheat, early crafts, and when to stop gathering by hand.
- How to Play — the five-verb loop: discover, fill a bar, unlock, place, leave.
- Early game tips — wood quotas from demo clips, clay stalls, and chests before Dark Thicket.
- Demo guide — what the Steam demo includes (full Woods, full Dark Thicket, Mountains preview), how long it lasts, and what it hides from the full game.
- Automation — harvesters, assemblers, pipes, chests, and how to rebuild without losing materials.
- Minigames — why Dark Thicket exists, how skills and the elder tree work, and why machines keep running while you are inside.
- Biomes — The Woods, Mountains, desert and snow regions seen in builds, and how island expansion unlocks unique resources.
- Lighthouse and endings — optional story, four endings, secret rooms, and how far you can ignore the narrative.
- Review — who the game is for, demo impressions, and how it compares to Forager and early Satisfactory.
How Nightwater actually plays
You spawn without a visible body or shadow and start punching trees. Resource discovery pop-ups (wood, stone, wheat) are the tutorial. Each resource has its own milestone track. Filling a bar unlocks buildings, crafts, and buffs. Official materials list 20+ resources, 60+ buildings, and more than 100 buildings, crafts, and buffs once every biome is open.
Technology is framed as ages: sticks and stones, Bronze Age, Industrial Era, then further. You do not need a wiki to enjoy punching trees, but you do need one once pipes, gears, oil, and clay start gating each other. That is what the items hub and the buildings tier list are for.
Demo versus full game
The demo is not a teaser slideshow. Studio Ashty stated it includes the first area The Woods with all of that biome’s milestone items, the first minigame Dark Thicket with full progression, and a sneak peek at the Mountains biome and its minigame (milestone items locked). Playtesters and the demo page both describe about one hour to reach the current end, or around four hours if you explore everything.
Do not expect the demo to show industrial-era factories or all five minigames. Use it to learn pacing, then come back to this hub after 18 September 2026 for post-launch pages.
