Nightwater Biomes

You do not walk to the next region. You expand the island and pull new land out of the void.

Nightwater Biomes Walkthrough

Nightwater’s map is not an open world you hike until the credits. It is a solitary island on a sea of liquid void and starlight, ringed by impassable mountains. New space arrives when you manifest biomes — official wording — each with unique resources and secrets. If you spend the demo hugging the first grove, you will never see why the factory needs to grow.

This walkthrough lists biomes that are named in developer posts or clearly shown in press and gameplay. It does not invent a full atlas. Pair it with resources and Getting Started.

How expansion works

Demo objectives say “expand your island to unlock the last forest biome” and “discover new biomes by expanding your island.” That is a spend-and-confirm action, not a loading screen you unlock by walking. Think of it as buying the next chunk of map with milestone progress.

When a chunk appears, scout it before you relocate the entire factory. Buildings can be moved with no resource loss, so you can shift harvesters onto the new nodes. See automation.

Each biome hides unique resources. The 20+ resource count is a full-game number. The Woods will not contain every material. If a craft suddenly wants something you have never punched, you probably need to expand, not grind the same tree harder.

The Woods (demo, complete)

The Woods is the first area. The 8 May 2026 demo includes all of its milestone items and unlocks. Cel-shaded trees, wheat discoveries, stone and clay patches, and the first harvesters all live here. It is also the lobby for the Dark Thicket minigame.

Play the Woods until wood, stone, and a one-pipe factory are stable. Then expand when the game asks. Staying forever in the first clearing is how people call the game “just punching trees.”

Mountains (demo preview)

The same demo post promises a sneak peek at the Mountains biome and its minigame, with milestone items locked. Walk around, take screenshots, do not expect a complete tech track. Full Mountains progression is launch content on 18 September 2026.

If you saw Mountains earlier, that may have been the March playtest, which let players explore the first two biomes and Dark Thicket. The demo is stricter about what you can finish.

Desert settlement (shown in press)

Press coverage and store-adjacent screenshots show a stylized desert village: stone buildings, cacti, jagged peaks, purple-blue sky, and build-mode holograms dropped into the street. Treat this as a later biome or a manifested region, not as The Woods with a filter. Unique nodes here are the reason you expand. Until Studio Ashty publishes an official name beyond what is on screen, this wiki will call it the desert settlement rather than guess a title.

Snow forest (shown in press)

Another set of shots shows blue pines, large purple mushrooms, and wooden walkways in snow. That is a different resource palette from the starting forest. Expect cold-biome materials and probably a minigame nearby once the full roster of five is live. Again: visible in marketing and capture, not fully playable in the demo’s milestone sense.

Void sea, mountains wall, Lighthouse

The “impassable mountains” and the void sea are the map’s frame, not biomes you harvest. The Lighthouse is the narrative landmark on the horizon. Reaching it is the long-term goal; it is not a sixth crafting region. Secrets and four endings are covered in the Lighthouse guide.

Stone chambers with arched wooden doors and vines appear in press stills. Those rooms are for people who read the world. Factory players can walk past them. Explorers should not.

Resource geography (what we can actually say)

From demo playthroughs in The Woods:

  • Trees → wood, planks, early gears.
  • Rocks → stone, with clay and ore in crusher radius.
  • Wheat fields → wheat and oil-related crafts.

From marketing for later regions:

  • Desert architecture implies different crafts and maybe brick-heavy building.
  • Snow and mushroom forests imply a second plant/fungus line.

Do not treat this as a datamined table. If launch shuffles nodes, updates will override this section.

Minigames sit on biomes

Dark Thicket is the Woods minigame. The Mountains minigame is previewed with that biome. The remaining minigames will almost certainly be parked on later manifested land. When you expand, look for an entrance, not just new trees. See minigames.

Suggested order

  1. Finish The Woods loop (milestones + one automated line).
  2. Play Dark Thicket enough to grab factory buffs.
  3. Expand when prompted; peek at Mountains without expecting a full tree.
  4. After 18 September 2026, push desert, snow, and whatever named biomes 1.0 adds, using the items hub to see which resources you still lack.

Nightwater is single-player. You cannot split biomes with a friend. Your island is yours, including the ugly pipe that crosses the only nice view of the lighthouse.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

How do I unlock new biomes in Nightwater?

You manifest or expand the island using in-game objectives and milestone progress. You do not walk off the starting map into a new region.

What biomes are in the demo?

The Woods is complete. Mountains is a preview with locked milestones. See the demo guide.

Are desert and snow biomes real?

They appear in official-style press screenshots. They are not fully available as demo milestone tracks.

Does each biome have a minigame?

Dark Thicket is tied to the first area and Mountains has a previewed minigame. The full game lists five minigames total; not every screenshot is a confirmed pairing.
