Nightwater System Requirements

Nightwater runs on Unreal Engine 5. That usually scares people into buying a new GPU. The published Steam minimums are milder: a 2012-era quad core, 8 GB of RAM, and a GTX 1650 / GTX 1050 Ti or RX 470 / RX 570 class card. This page copies the store tables we could verify and adds practical notes from demo discussion. If Steam and this page ever disagree, Steam wins.

Install the demo as the real benchmark. Wishlisting does not test your PC. Launch is 18 September 2026.

Windows minimum

• 64-bit processor and OS
• OS: Windows 10 or later (64-bit)
• CPU: Intel i5-3570 3.4 GHz, 4 cores
• RAM: 8 GB
• GPU: Nvidia GTX 1650 / GTX 1050 Ti, or AMD RX 470 / RX 570, or equivalent performance and VRAM
• Storage: 10 GB available space

Windows recommended

• 64-bit processor and OS
• OS: Windows 11 or later (64-bit)
• CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X or Intel i5-12400 or equivalent, 6 physical cores minimum
• RAM: 12 GB
• GPU: Nvidia RTX 2070 or AMD RX 5700, or equivalent performance and VRAM
• Storage: 10 GB available space

The jump from 8 GB to 12 GB RAM and from 4 cores to 6 is the line to watch. UE5 titles stutter first on RAM and cores, then on GPU, especially with the cel-shaded post-process look Nightwater uses (the developer has said post-process materials do a lot of the visual work).

Linux

GamingOnLinux and other databases list native Linux. One third-party spec sheet shows:

• OS: Ubuntu 18.04, SteamOS 3.0, or later
• CPU: Zen 2 class
• RAM: 8 GB
• GPU: Nvidia GTX 1050 class
• Storage: 5 GB (this disagrees with the 10 GB Windows number — budget 10 GB anyway)

Proton may also work if a native build misbehaves. We will not pretend we certified every distro. Test the demo.

Steam Deck

Store compatibility is Unknown as of the last check before launch week. Full controller support is a good sign; UE5 plus first-person plus post-process is not a guarantee of a Verified badge. If you only own a Deck, download the demo and watch thermals before you pre-judge the review.

Mac

No Mac requirements were published on the sheets we used. Do not buy the game expecting a macOS button that does not exist on the store page.

Other store flags

Single-player, Steam Achievements, full controller support, captions, adjustable text, camera comfort, color alternatives, custom volume, adjustable difficulty, playable without timed input, save anytime, stereo and surround, Steam Cloud, Family Sharing. That is a generous accessibility list for a solo indie. Use camera comfort if the void sea swims (a GameTrailers commenter already complained about that sensation on the trailer).

Practical advice

• SSD. 10 GB is small; still put it on an SSD. UE5 shader compile hitches on spinning disks.
• 1080p first. A Steam thread described the 3D world shifting while the UI stayed put at 1920×1080. Toggle windowed / borderless before you lower every setting.
• VSync vs frame cap. First-person plus stylized lighting can feel worse with uncapped tearing than with 60 Hz.
• Laptop GPUs. A 1650 laptop is not a 1650 desktop. Try the demo on battery-off, performance mode.
• Friends cannot share the load. It is single-player only. Each PC needs its own spec check.

After it launches

If 1.0 adds denser industrial maps, these minimums might creep. Watch updates and the Steam “PC requirements” block. For bind questions, use controls. For “is the game good,” use the review, not your FPS counter.
